New paper on global philanthropy by Anne Petersen, Ph.D., Founder and President of Global Philanthropy Alliance.  Trends in Global Philanthropy in US Foundations: A Brief Review of Data, Issues, and Challenges.  Summary: The philanthropic work of the early foundation pioneers in the United State included grants intended for beneficiaries outside the US. After continuing at a relatively stable level  for most of the last century, international grantmaking expanded many-fold over the past two decades . The reasons for as well as the implications of this dramatic change are discussed in this review of global philanthropy.    The article concludes with future challenges for foundations.

Collective Impact (Kania & Kramer) This very important paper provides a review of efforts that achieve impact: they engage all stakeholders (eg, intended beneficiaries, funders, decision makers, etc) in a geographic region working on a topic (like education) to achieve sustainable impact.

Creating Shared Value (Kramer & Porter) This article (like Collective Impact) is from the team at FSG. The authors argue that the connection between societal and economic progress, theshared value has the power to unleash the next wave of global growth. Companies can create shared value by reconceiving products and markets, by redefining productivity in the value chain, and by enabling local cluster development. The lens of shared value will lead to new approaches that generate greater innovation and growth for companies and also greater benefits for society.
